In this study group we will discover the many different voices of our drums, from the most basic instruments (often regarded as toys) to the highest level professional quality drums. All drums can be used to create beautiful music from basic rhythms. This is a great workshop for learning the different techniques in using the instruments that you play, and some you didn’t even know you could.

Funky Rhythmical Sounds – Drum Workshop – with Ian Monroe (Tribal Soup)

This workshop will be about drumming in the moment, being a part of the creation of what occurs around the traditional American Drum Circle. Improvisational drumming can be the most difficult aspect of drum circle drumming since it does not always follow a specific path or direction and is a living entity that is created in the moment. After reviewing the standard techniques for the different sounds that can be generated with the Djembe and going over some simple drills to improve those techniques, the class will proceed down the path leading to the Funky Rhythmical Sounds that can only be found in an American Drum Circle. You do not want to miss this workshop.

Women’s Drum Circle / Workshop – Nichole Arkin (Tribal Soup)

Come out and experience a woman’s only drum workshop, help create a different type of energy filled with the goddess and the feminine.  Bring what instruments you have and we will share and create a special place coming together as a community, let go and we will drum and dance and be one with the goddess.  This is a special experience that no woman should miss out, drum circle energies have been proven to reduce stress and booster the immune system.  Women have always gathered together in groups, sharing and forming the backbone of all communities throughout the world, let us do just that at this festival and create something special.

Tribal Soup

Tribal Soup is the perfect blend of flavor and rhythm.  It is a group of people who have played
together for so many years that they can anticipate what is to be, how it will arrive, and how it will be heard.  These
ingredients of sounds are always evolving and changing with time and people, each bowl of Tribal Soup is a new and different experience from the last, but it is always a great way to spend your time enjoying. They will take a little bit of this and a pinch of that, pulling from the numerous cultures of drums throughout the world.   What arrives on our taste buds is something that mixes the flavors of so many cultures and has no traditional name. Each of us brings an ingredient that is essential to the
overall meal of rhythms and sound, and when placed around the fire the sparks of flavor ignite and when you find yourself around the fire dancing, laughing, and being one with the community, you will be wanting another bowl of Tribal Soup.
